In God, and in God alone, the faithful will find the fulfillment of every righteous desire. Their expanded awareness will reveal that the desires they had that they thought were for a person or a thing were actually misplaced, that these desires were a call towards God and a foretaste of what he alone can give.
All the righteous, if they continue faithful, will arrive at the point where their faith turns into knowledge, where their trust in God blossoms into a relationship with him. The day will come when he personally wipes the tears from their eyes—not in an empty gesture, but by explaining why perfect love dictated that it had to be exactly how it was.
The Lord said:
60 ...As I live, even so will I come in the last days, in the days of wickedness and vengeance, to fulfil the oath which I have made unto you concerning the children of Noah;
61 And the day shall come that the earth shall rest, but before that day the heavens shall be darkened, and a veil of darkness shall cover the earth; and the heavens shall shake, and also the earth; and great tribulations shall be among the children of men, but my people will I preserve;
62 And righteousness will I send down out of heaven; and truth will I send forth out of the earth, to bear testimony of mine Only Begotten; his resurrection from the dead; yea, and also the resurrection of all men; and righteousness and truth will I cause to sweep the earth as with a flood, to gather out mine elect from the four quarters of the earth, unto a place which I shall prepare, an Holy City, that my people may gird up their loins, and be looking forth for the time of my coming; for there shall be my tabernacle, and it shall be called Zion, a New Jerusalem.
63 And the Lord said unto Enoch: Then shalt thou and all thy city meet them there, and we will receive them into our bosom, and they shall see us; and we will fall upon their necks, and they shall fall upon our necks, and we will kiss each other;
64 And there shall be mine abode, and it shall be Zion, which shall come forth out of all the creations which I have made; and for the space of a thousand years the earth shall rest. (Moses 7)
Why will they weep? Because these people have a mutual comprehension of the mystery of godliness. They have trodden the winepress of affliction, which is the only way to mine out God’s light and truth.
This experience only comes to people who have come to the point where they keep all of God's commandments. This only happens when people who have already given their entire heart to God are repeatedly shown parts they actually have yet to give, until there is nothing left. This only happens when people who have already reconciled all that they are to their best idea of what God is like are repeatedly shown things they didn't know about him, until they have acquired and assimilated the character of God to the greatest degree possible in this life. This is the state reached by those who have placed everything on the altar, and climbed onto it themselves as the final sacrifice. These are just men made perfect. They overcome all things. It is only then that they can see eye to eye with others who have done the same, and their mutual comprehension of the mystery of godliness produces unfathomable joy, unreachable by any who have not done the same.
This is what it means to acquire light and truth, and will be the state of all who endure this search to the end.
