The apostle John opened his account of the Lord’s ministry by saying:
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. (John 1)
The Amplified translation of the Bible, so called because of its retention of the meanings of the original words in brackets, reads like this:
1 In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself.
2 He was [continually existing] in the beginning [co-eternally] with God.
3 All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him not even one thing was made that has come into being.
4 In Him was life [and the power to bestow life], and the life was the Light of men.
5 The Light shines on in the darkness, and the darkness did not understand it or overpower it or appropriate it or absorb it [and is unreceptive to it]. (John 1, AMP)
Darkness is not evil. Rather, it is ignorance. It is a lack of awareness or a refusal to recognize what is known.
Darkness may not recognize or receive the light, but it can’t stop it either.
The light shines on, even in the darkest darkness. Understand what this means: All light and truth pertaining to this domain is always available, even if you don’t recognize or perceive it.
