Isaiah provided a prophetic description of the torment the Lord would face during his ministry when he wrote:
I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting. (Isaiah 50:6)
The shame inflicted on the Lord was not limited to physical spit in his literal face—which was the worst possible insult of his time—but, more significantly, included ignoring the inestimable gift of his demonstration of the character of the Father.2
All who learn and live the character of Christ will face similar treatment as he did at the hands of those who are not like him.3 The scriptures provide examples of the Lord’s servants being rejected and persecuted just as he was.4 The more like Jesus a person becomes, the more people will treat them like they would treat him.5 If you fail to notice his servants, you will fail to notice him. If you reject his servants, you will reject him.1307
It is imperative to notice those who know Jesus better than you instead of ignoring them.1308 It is essential to heed their teachings rather than rejecting them.1309 It is important to support them1310 instead of persecuting them.1311 The Lord said that how we treat his servants is how we treat him.1312
