Jesus challenged each of his believers to learn so much about him and live so much like him that other people would learn more about God's goodness simply through getting to know them (see Matthew 5:16). Your life is meant to so fully reflect what Jesus would think, feel, and do in your place that interaction with you causes others to set new standards on how good they imagine a person can be. Unfortunately, many Christians don't believe this is possible, some don't think it is necessary, and the few who are willing to try are not sure how to do it.
There is a great deal to God's character, and there are significant barriers to perceiving and acquiring it. The gospel of Jesus Christ is designed as a mechanism to help you learn how Jesus would think, feel, and act in your place at all times and in all places and give you every necessary reason to do so.
In this book, you will learn that:
- The gospel is a process of learning about and becoming more like God.
- Everything good comes from becoming more like God, and that the more like him you become, the greater your joy, peace, and power will be.
- You know less about God than you think, but you can know much more, and you should strive to do so.
- You can actually live up to your understanding of how Jesus is, and that you must do so in order to receive freedom from guilt, forgiveness of your sins, and to learn more about him.
- Salvation and eternal life are both obtained through learning about and living like Jesus Christ.
- The power of God is a function of learning about and living like Jesus.
- God's power comes from his character and can't exist outside of his purpose.
- God's commandments are the instructions for building a model of his character and following it in your own life.
There is no topic of greater importance in the gospel of Jesus Christ than the character of Christ. The content of the Lord's character defines the nature of God, the means of salvation, the quality of eternal life, the power of God, and the reasons why all people should seek to become as he is.
