The Seers Hath He Covered

The kingdom of God requires flowing contemporary revelation

What constitutes the kingdom of God? Where there is a prophet, a priest, or a righteous man unto whom God gives His oracles, there is the kingdom of God; and where the oracles of God are not, there the kingdom of God is not.... but if we do not get revelations, we do not have the oracles of God.... (T.P.J.S., p. 272)

When the people are wicked, God withholds his spirit

For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered. (Isaiah 29:10)

Then shall the seers be ashamed, and the diviners confounded: yea, they shall all cover their lips; for there is no answer of God. (Micah 3:7)

Churches that do not have flowing contemporary revelation are in rebellion against God

"Communication never ceased when the people were faithful....an unbroken stillness reigned between the heavens and the earth until the people again repented...." (George Q. Cannon, J.D. 22:265)

"When new revelation ceases to be given, officers cease to be called of God." (Orson Pratt's Works, p. 40)

"At this point we recall the stirring words of the late Elder B. H. Roberts. Striking the tabernacle pulpit he exclaimed: ‘We have Prophets who do not prophesy; Seers who do not see, and Revelators who do not reveal.'" (Truth, Aug. 1952, 18:3, p. 83)

"I do not know of any Urim and Thummim used in the Church today." (First Presidency Member Hugh B. Brown Oct. 10, 1969, University of Utah Institute of Religion)

When his people turn away from him, God calls others and raises up another people

13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
14 Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid. (Isaiah 29)
