For years, I have received questions regarding baptism. Those who have asked them know how intentionally I have avoided answering them.
Today, I received another one about multiple baptisms and responded:
This question, like so many, is connected to others. Churches today have put all their weight on ideas and ordinances without working out the essentials they stand on.
Baptism is an equation with many variables:
Who is baptizing? Why and how? What are their qualifications?
Who is getting baptized? Why and how? What are their qualifications?
Ideally, a person gets baptized once and then never sins again. What happens when they sin again depends on the answers to the above questions.
These questions will be definitely answered, but that book has not yet been written, and there are reasons why topics like repentance and honesty have come first, as well as why other books must still come before they can be answered.
The following passage is a good synopsis of the Lord's word to you all now:
13 Behold, this is the preparation wherewith I prepare you, and the foundation, and the ensample which I give unto you, whereby you may accomplish the commandments which are given you;
14 That through my providence, notwithstanding the tribulation which shall descend upon you, that the church may stand independent above all other creatures beneath the celestial world;
15 That you may come up unto the crown prepared for you, and be made rulers over many kingdoms, saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Zion, who hath established the foundations of Adam-ondi-Ahman;
16 Who hath appointed Michael your prince, and established his feet, and set him upon high, and given unto him the keys of salvation under the counsel and direction of the Holy One, who is without beginning of days or end of life.
17 Verily, verily, I say unto you, ye are little children, and ye have not as yet understood how great blessings the Father hath in his own hands and prepared for you;
18 And ye cannot bear all things now; nevertheless, be of good cheer, for I will lead you along. The kingdom is yours and the blessings thereof are yours, and the riches of eternity are yours.
19 And he who receiveth all things with thankfulness shall be made glorious; and the things of this earth shall be added unto him, even an hundred fold, yea, more. (D&C 78)
You have not realized how far you are from the blessings you and your ancestors pretended to. However, the Lord will lead you along. He has and is executing a plan to make all things known to you, and everything is being made available faster than you are and will be ready to receive it, just as he has until now. To say this more plainly: the limiting factor in your ascent towards God is NOT the speed at which things are being revealed from heaven, but your heed and diligence in implementing what has already been made known to you.
The pattern is unbroken: God's intervention comes after you do all you can. Have you extracted and implemented all value from:
1) Your conscience, which improves and therefore will give new guidance as you use it?
2) The resources you have access to in life, including other people?
These are the two points you should focus 100% of your effort on as God continues revealing more, including the details of what baptism is and how it works. Were he to reveal this now, would it matter? Would there be anyone worthy to receive it?
Until you are doing the best that you know, you have no legal claim on additional light and truth. Whatever increment is available to those who are not consistently doing the best they know only comes because of the price paid by others. In God's wisdom, the modern world provides access to light and truth through publicly available resources that historically would only be accessible person to person. Under historical constraints, you should ask whether you would be deemed worthy of the greater light and truth that is instantly accessible by anyone today. Could an angel testify that you have been true and faithful to all things given until now? If not, you can rest assured that the only reason you have access to more is because of the price paid by others. Make use of it! Squeeze every drop from it. You will need it for the times to come, and you will be held accountable for it in the day of judgment.

A key you just gave: "Could an angel testify that you have been true and faithful to all things given until now?" My understanding is that there are more angels than the shiny ones, and that there are angels with specific responsibilities, some being to baptize. Is it correct to say that to be baptized you have to be sinless and that the person baptizing, not only has to sinless, but also has to be commanded to baptize with a requirement being that they are able to testify of the person they are baptizing to have been true and faithful in all things given to them (to be sinless)?
It certainly would depend on what is being offered, right?
Evidence there is more to learn and even more to do; no doubt. Thank you for your valuable insight.
My pleasure!
